Work underway on demolition that will clear the way for Poole’s new Twin Sails bridge.
Demolition work is set to start later today to create an approach road to the new £37m Twin Sails bridge in Dorset.
The structure will span Backwater Channel between Hamworthy and Poole.
Building began on the project in October 2010 with the construction of the bridge’s supports. It is scheduled to open in 2012. The boat park in West Quay Road previously provided dry stack facilities and moorings for marine vessels.
As part of the work, the site will also be raised as part of the council’s programme to reduce the impact of future flooding in the area.
Councillor Xena Dion, member for transportation, said: “The demolition… marks another key stage in the delivery of the Twin Sails bridge.”
