Alberquque bridge collapses injuring at least three worker.
Officials say an overpass bridge collapsed Wednesday during demolition along Interstate 40, between Midway Ranch and Albuquerque West, injuring three workers.
The New Mexico Department of Transportation reports that a construction crew was working on behalf of the A.S. Horner company to disassemble and remove the bridge at Exit 140 (Rio Puerco) along I-40, west of the city, around 9:55 a.m. when the structure collapsed due to a broken girder.
Officials at the scene report that two of the men were working down below the bridge, while a third was operating an excavator on the bridge’s surface. The nature of their injuries has not been described and it is unclear whether they were treated on scene or hospitalized.
